Most of the email messages we receive are from people who are not successful in their EmailFinder searches or who are looking for services we don't provide. This page contains explanations and tips to help you in your efforts.

TABLE OF CONTENTS:

WHY CAN'T I FIND MYSELF?
Our database only lists people who visit our web site and register with us. So, if you search for yourself without registering first, your search cannot be successful. If you register with us, your listing becomes active immediately and your search will then be successful. To add your information to our database, please visit our REGISTRATION page.

WHY CAN'T I FIND A MATCH? I KNOW THE PERSON HAS AN EMAIL ADDRESS.
There are literally thousands of companies that offer Internet access to individuals and companies and thousands more that maintain their own direct connection to the Internet. For this reason, there is no centralized "directory" of Email addresses. Instead, people and companies must visit one or more of the directory services on the Internet and "register" their information.

Unless the person or business you are seeking has registered with a particular directory service, you will not be able to find them in that directory. This is also true of our database - if the information has not been registered, it is not available.

If you do not find the person you are seeking using our service, please visit our LINKS page, which contains a few other directory services you may wish to try.

I JUST HAVE ONE EMAIL ADDRESS. HOW DO I REGISTER?
Although our service is designed to link "old" and "new" email addresses, we recognize that some people wish to be listed with only one address. If you fall into that category, you can still register with us - just enter your valid email address in both the "OLD" and "NEW" text boxes.

I KNOW THE WEB SITE ADDRESS. HOW CAN I FIND THE EMAIL ADDRESS?
There are some tricks and guidelines you can use to obtain Email addresses through web site addresses. One way to do this is to use the InterNIC database, which lists the contact information for over a million web sites. If you know the web site is, for example, www.xyzcompany.com, you can search the Network Solutions WHOIS database for XYZCOMPANY.COM and it will list Email contacts that can provide a starting point. You can also try sending an Email message to general mailboxes like sales@xyzcompany.com, info@xyzcompany.com or webmaster@xyzcompany.com.

Since Network Solutions is not the only company providing domain name registration, there is another database that you can search as well called OPENSRS. If it doesn't have the domain name information you requested, it will often point you to another web site that will have a WHOIS capability that you can use.

Finally, you can "convert" web addresses from a number of ISPs into subscriber information. This is possible because many ISPs offer free web space and the address is based on the user's logon address. For example, if you visit a web page at www.abc.com/~johndoe, it is likely that the Email address for that person or company is johndoe@abc.com.

WHERE ELSE CAN I LOOK FOR EMAIL ADDRESSES?
Since there is no central directory of Email addresses, it's hard to provide a definitive list of places to look. We've gathered some on our LINKS page and those are certainly worth a shot. You can also try to find web pages about a person and hope that at least one of the pages contains a valid Email address.

One technique that has become popular in recent months is called "GOOGLING" someone. This is where you enter a person's name into the Google search engine and see what comes up.

I HAVE A LIST OF BAD ADDRESSES. CAN YOU UPDATE THE WHOLE LIST AT ONCE?
EmailFinder and URLFinder were conceived as personal databases, not as business tools. We don't have any automatic tools that would allow us to check an entire list, so we would have to do the same thing that you'll have to do - enter each bad address in the search form and check for them one at a time.

CAN I GET A LIST BY ISP, CITY OR TYPE OF COMPANY?
Unfortunately, we don't have that type of information.

EmailFinder and URLFinder are databases designed to link old, invalid addresses with current information. We do not rent or sell any of the information in our database and do not collect any demographic information that might allow us to provide this type of service.

You may have a better chance if you check some of the general-purpose search engines using phrases like "Direct Marketing" and "List Rental." The results of these types of searches may help identify sites that are more appropriate for this kind of request.
